About Me
I'm a Fourth Grade Teacher at Oak Grove Elementary. I am the mother of a fifth grade Maker/Tinkerer, and a 1st Grade performer/burgeoning Maker. I am wife and partner to my Rock, Matt, since 1991.
I first heard about the Bay Area Maker Faire, and Dale Doughtery from my long-time friend, Joan Johnson Miller, who encouraged me to contact Dale at MAKE HQ in 2012. At that time, I didn't connect, but I started hearing about Casey Shea's workshop at Analy High, and some of my colleagues attended a summer workshop with Casey. In 2013 I took my family to the Bay Area MAKER Faire, and I was hooked. Initially, I had a dual purpose - bring MAKER projects into my classroom and school as well as to my own children at home. I have a tinkerer son who thrives on deconstructing and then constructing new spaces. Then in March of 2014 I signed up for the MAKE for educators workshop at SCOE, but I was called out of town and sent my colleague instead. I heard about a MAKER space crawl from SCOE, the day before in May - and missed the networking again. We went for our second year to the Bay Area MAKER Faire in San Mateo. Then, in August at EDUImpact, I saw Jessica Parker of SSU present about the Maker Educator Certification program in conjunction with MAKE Magazine Founder Dale Doughtery, SSU and SCOE. I signed up the first day the course went live.
So far, I've enjoyed:
